Freightliner Chooses Charlotte, North Carolina, For Hardest Working Cities Award
Freightliner Trucks has named Charlotte, North Carolina, one of the Hardest Working Cities. The manufacturer will give present the award to James Mitchell, Jr., a member of the Charlotte City Council and a chair of its Economic Development committee at the zMAX Dragway on September 17. Charlotte was one of around 400 metropolitan areas considered for the award in North America and was selected based on 11 different categories, including employment growth in specific industries and others.
“The Hardest Working Cities program has been a great way to shine light on positive growth in cities across North America, and the men and women who work tirelessly behind the scenes,” said Mike McHorse, director of channel marketing for Freightliner and Detroit, in a press release. “It’s clear cities count on work trucks, and the drivers who operate them, for essential jobs such as building mass transit solutions, hauling refuse, delivering essential goods, and paving roadways, so we’re honored to recognize these successful economies.”
New Tradition
Since 2015, 11 cities have received the award, including Dallas, Des Moines, Detroit, Edmonton, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York City, Salt Lake City, Seattle/Tacoma, and Toronto. Charlotte is top 10 in total employment growth and top 15 in contribution to the United States GDP, and the city is in the top 5% for light and heavy truck employment and top 10% for employment in construction-related fields. The award event in September will not only honor the city of Charlotte in general, but also the many workers that make it one of the hardest working cities in North America.
