Truck Inventory Levels Continue To Decline, While Auction & Asking Values See Modest Changes
Sandhills Global’s newest market reports cover April data for used trucks on TruckPaper.com and other Sandhills platforms. Truck inventory continued its decline in April, with day cab trucks down 5.7% and sleeper trucks down 3.8% month over month. Year over year, medium-duty truck inventory had the largest decrease, down 38.4%, followed by day cab trucks, down 25.1%.
Auction values saw modest changes with medium-duty trucks rising 3.6% M/M, though they remained down 1.7% Y/Y. Day cabs increased 0.2% M/M but were down 1.9% Y/Y. Asking prices also saw small increases. Medium-duty trucks increased 1.4% for the month but were down 4.2% on the year.
“We are witnessing inventory in key categories continuing to exit the market,” says Truck Paper Sales Manager Scott Lubischer. “Historically, a reduction in supply at these levels increases values, and our modeling is showing some elevated pricing in the upcoming months.”
