Contact us to learn more about this unit. Overview This new 2026 Peterbilt Model 220 is a medium-duty conventional day cab configured as a rear load refuse truck. It is spec’d for refuse, scrap, and recycling hauling in on-highway refuse service. It carries an Air-Flo 16 YD Rear Load Packer, Model RL-SB-16, with a chassis-specified body length of 204 inches and body height of 162 inches. Engine & Drivetrain The truck is powered by a PACCAR PX-7 engine (2024 emissions) rated at 250 HP at 2,400 RPM, governed at 2,600 RPM, with 660 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 RPM. The powertrain is optimized for performance in vocational applications, with a typical operating speed of 75 MPH. Engine protection shutdown is enabled, maximum PTO speed is set at 1,400 RPM, and the engine idle shutdown timer is disabled. Electrical equipment includes a 160-amp brushed alternator, a Delco 12V starter, and two PACCAR Premium 12V starting batteries rated at 2,000 CCA. A Kissling battery disconnect switch is mounted on the right-hand rail. For cold weather, the engine has a 110–120V immersion-type block heater, a cold start grid heater effective to -4°F, and a 12V-heated spin-on fuel/water separator. Cooling is handled by a high-efficiency cooling system with a viscous fan clutch, and air comes from an 18.7 CFM air compressor. Intake is through a right-hand fender-mounted air cleaner with high air intake and an air restriction indicator. Exhaust is a single right-hand horizontal system with the DPF/SCR mounted under the frame on the right side. The engine is backed by an Allison 3500 RDS-P Gen 6 Rugged Duty Series automatic transmission in a 6-speed wide-ratio configuration. It has a console-mounted push-button shifter, a TC-411 torque converter, Allison RDS Package 180, and Primary Shift Schedule 1. The transmission includes auto neutral with the parking brake, neutral at stop, and an output neutral indicator for PTO. Power goes through a 1710 HD driveline with one midship bearing to a 5.57 rear axle ratio. Chassis & Axles The chassis rides on a 164" wheelbase with a 72" rear overhang. Cab-to-axle is 152.6", and cab-to-end-of-frame is 224.6". The frame uses 10-1/4" steel rails with steel crossmembers and a square end of frame. The front axle is a Dana Spicer E1202IR rated at 12,000 lbs with single power steering. The rear axle is a Dana Spicer S23-172 single axle rated at 23,000 lbs, with a rear differential lock and synthetic lubricant in all axles. GVWR is 35,000 lbs, with a GAWR of 12,000 lbs front and 23,000 lbs rear, and the maximum grade rating is 6%. Air disc brakes are fitted front and rear on PHP10 iron Preset+ hubs, with pad dust shields on the front. A Wabco Electronic Braking System (EBS) provides antilock and traction control. The air system uses a heated Wabco SS1200 Plus air dryer with a coalescing filter and high-mounted, painted steel air tanks. Fuel is carried in a 22" aluminum 56-gallon tank on the left side behind the cab, alongside an 8-gallon rectangular DEF tank. A steel battery box with an aluminum cover is mounted on the right frame rail, and the front bumper is painted steel in gray. Suspension The front suspension uses taper leaf springs with shocks, rated at 12,000 lbs. The rear suspension is a Reyco 79KB multi-leaf rated at 23,000 lbs. Cab & Interior The cab is a steel 63.5" BBC ProBilt day cab in left-hand drive, with a one-piece curved windshield and a rear window. The interior is gray. The driver gets a Sears C2 air ride, high-back seat in fabric, and a two-person fabric passenger seat sits alongside, with orange seat belts throughout. The cab has a tilt steering column, a Peterbilt logo steering wheel, and rear wall storage. Comfort and convenience features include electric power windows, a combination fresh air heater and air conditioner, and heated, motorized driving mirrors on both sides. Audio is a ConcertClass AM/FM/weatherband radio with 3.5mm auxiliary input, Bluetooth phone and audio, and a USB port. The cab also has intermittent electric wipers, a dual-scale MPH/KPH speedometer, a HAZMAT-approved ABC fire extinguisher, and a 107 dB backup alarm. Exterior lighting includes dual round halogen headlights with integral turn signals, five marker lights, fog/driving lights, daytime running lights, and stop/tail/turn/backup lights. The cab and hood are finished in Axalta single-stage non-metallic Ice White over a black frame. Body & Equipment The Air-Flo RL-SB-16 is a single-bin rear load packer with a 16 cubic yard capacity and a compaction rate of 900 lbs per cubic yard. It is driven by a hot shift PTO with pump. The body is built from high tensile steel: 8-gauge side walls, a 10-gauge roof, a 7-gauge floor, and a 7-gauge slide face. The hopper floor is 3/16" high tensile. The scraper blade face and lower tailgate sides are 3/16" Hardox 450. The upper tailgate sides are 7-gauge high tensile in the sweep zone and 10-gauge high tensile above it. Scraper blades extend to the ejection blades. Operator features include curbside controls, standing platforms on both sides, a driver’s side access door, and an in-cab emergency shut off. A dual rear emergency stop package is also fitted. The hydraulic tank is mounted curbside at the front of the body, and the body is plumbed for a curbside cart tipper. Lighting and visibility equipment includes front and rear strobe lights, side body flood lights, and two LED hopper lights activated by toggle switch, plus a rear camera. The body is finished with grit blast prep, epoxy primer, and a white urethane top coat. Tires & Wheels The front tires are 16-ply 11R22.5 RY023. The rear tires are 14-ply 11R22.5 TY517 MC2 in a four-tire dual setup. All positions run 22.5x8.25 ACC-LTE Steel Armor steel wheels with hand holes.
