Overview This new 2024 Peterbilt Model 537 is configured for scrap, recycling, and on-highway refuse hauling, built on a 256" wheelbase chassis and fitted with a Pac-Mac KBF-20H-HJ knuckleboom loader and 18' 24-cubic-yard body. Engine & Drivetrain Powered by a PACCAR PX-9 rated at 300 HP (governed at 2,200 RPM) with 860 lb-ft of torque at 1,200 RPM, built to 2024 emissions standards and optimized for vocational/heavy-GCWR performance. Paired with an Allison 3000 RDS-P Rugged Duty Series 6-speed automatic transmission (close-ratio gears) with a dash-mounted push-button shifter, Allison World Trans primary shift schedule, dynamic fuel-sense shift sensing, and neutral-at-stop. Driveline is an SPL170 HD-XL with 2 midship bearings. Equipped with a remote PTO/throttle provision (12-pin, engine bay), a Chelsea PTO mount with a dash-mounted electric-over-hydraulic PTO control and park brake interlock, a VGT exhaust brake, and a PACCAR 160-amp brushed alternator. Additional engine equipment includes an immersion-type block heater (110-120V), a PACCAR 12V starter, two PACCAR premium 12V starting batteries (2,000 CCA), a low-voltage disconnect system with a battery-box-mounted disconnect switch, a Horton on/off fan clutch, an 18.7 CFM air compressor, a high-efficiency cooling system, and a single RH horizontal exhaust with under-frame DPF/SCR. Chassis & Axles Front axle is a Dana Spicer E1202IL rated 12,000 lbs with taper leaf springs/shocks, Sheppard HD94 power steering, wide-track configuration, and Bendix air cam front drum brakes (16.5"x5", 10,000-14,600 lb steer axle rating). Rear axle is a Dana Spicer P22060S rated 21,000 lbs with a 5.29 ratio, Bendix Smart ATC traction control, refuse-duty service brakes on steer and drive axles, Bendix air cam rear drum brakes (16.5"x8.6"), ABS (4S4M), and synthetic axle lubricant throughout. GAWR is rated 12,000 lbs front / 21,000 lbs rear for a 33,000 lb GVWR and GCW. Wheelbase measures 256", with a cab-to-axle of 188.5" and cab-to-end-of-frame of 263.5". Frame consists of 10-5/8" steel rails (326"-384", 5/16" thickness) with a 5-piece crossmember, zinc-coated corrosion-treated rails, and aluminum frame rail crossmembers. Maximum grade rating is 6%. Suspension Rear suspension is a Reyco 79KB taper-leaf setup rated 21,000 lbs with 4,500 lb helper springs, supported by a 3-piece suspension crossmember. Cab & Interior The cab is Peterbilt's Aero 107" BBC design with an SMC hood and molded charcoal crown over an aluminum cab, finished with a bright hood crown trim and a thermal insulation package. Seating includes a driver's seat with air ride and high-back vinyl trim, a driver's armrest (RH), a 2-person vinyl passenger seat (non-air ride, low-back), orange seat belts, and an underseat toolbox. Interior features high-visibility yellow grabhandles, metal interior door panel kick plates, a ProBilt charcoal gray curved-roof headliner, an adjustable tilt/telescoping steering column with a Peterbilt-logo steering wheel, a textured NFPA-compliant exterior cab entry grabhandle, dark window tint, a one-piece curved windshield, a fixed one-piece rear cab window, and power door locks/windows. Climate control is a combination fresh-air heater/air conditioner. Exterior mirrors are motorized, heated Peterbilt aero mirrors with integrated convex lenses and a black-housed look-down mirror over the passenger door. Electronics include a ConcertClass AM/FM/weatherband radio with a 3.5" aux input, a 2-speaker package, Bluetooth phone/audio with USB port, and a 5-year SmartLINQ remote diagnostics subscription. Instrumentation includes a digital 7" cluster display with dual-scale speedometer, transmission oil temperature readout, and an air restriction indicator, plus an extra dash-mounted switch. Additional cab equipment includes an under-cab air horn, electric intermittent windshield wipers, cab air suspension, auto-reset circuit protection, a ship-loose triangle reflector kit, a fire extinguisher mounted outboard of the driver seat, backup alarm wiring to the EOF, composite fender-mounted headlights with integral DRL/park/turn and side marker lighting, five aero LED marker lights, beacon/strobe switch and wiring at the rear sill, self-canceling turn signals, and square incandescent stop/turn/tail/backup lighting. Body & Equipment Equipped with a Pac-Mac KBF-20H-HJ knuckleboom loader system, featuring H-style outriggers, a hot-shift PTO, a 6' tip boom with 4' extend and a 10' main boom with extend tip, and hydraulic joystick controls. The loader rides on an 18' 24-cubic-yard body (216" length, 120" height, 1,000 lb max laden weight) finished with barn doors, an oil cooler, a rubber mat serving as a heat shield, and outrigger rubber pads. Loader safety equipment includes a strobe light on the pivot, mid-body turn signals, a boom-up alarm, and rear post corner strobes. The loader and body are finished in standard red/black over a black body, with the chassis cab, hood, fenders, and roof finished in white over a black frame (two-stage Axalta paint). Also equipped with a molded one-piece gray aero front bumper, an MD battery box with a non-slip step (RH), a rubber battery pad, and an aluminum battery box cover. Fuel system includes a D-shaped 50-gallon aluminum fuel tank (LH, under cab) with a non-slip step, plus a DEF tank (LH, under cab) with a polished stainless steel cover. Air system includes a Bendix AD-HF air dryer with heater and coalescing filter, pull cords on all air tanks, steel painted air tanks, and 5' body-connection hosing.
