    About Logging Trucks

    Kenworth T880 Logging Truck

Logging trucks are medium- and heavy-duty vehicles specially equipped to transport heavy loads of fallen timber from logging sites to staging areas for transportation or directly to lumber mills and other industrial facilities. Logging trucks typically have strong suspensions, high-powered engines, and sufficient clearance to haul the extreme weight of their cargo up and down steep gradients, on rough and winding roads, and through challenging weather conditions. Some logging trucks have integrated flatbeds, while others have trailers that are essentially stake trucks designed to securely haul large stacks of logs that can measure 40 feet (12.2 meters) long or longer. Some logging trucks also include a truck-mounted loader with an extendable boom and a grapple or some type of material grabber, allowing them to load themselves and obviating the need for separate log loader equipment.

    Protection & Productivity

You’ll find logging trucks based on the Kenworth T800, Western Star 4900, and other models available with a range of features designed to provide enhanced safety and productivity. For example, in addition to onboard scale systems and headache racks, some models include a steel bull bar to safeguard the front of the truck from damage as well as lockers to prevent the truck from rolling when stopped on an incline. In addition to a diesel engine that can exceed 500 horsepower (373 kilowatts) from leading manufacturers like Caterpillar, Cummins, and Detroit, you’ll find many logging trucks equipped with an 18-speed manual transmission, a 6x4 drivetrain, an air ride suspension, and tandem or tridem rear axles.
