    Equipment & Capacity

Vacuum tank trucks often incorporate liquid- or air-cooled pumps, suction hoses, valves, self-contained pumping motors, power take-off (PTO) systems, and tanks (often constructed of aluminum) with capacities ranging from several hundred gallons to several thousand. A truck’s gross vehicle weight (GVW) generally determines the size of tank it can safely carry. Also referred to as “vacuum tankers” or “vac trucks,” new and used vacuum tank trucks generally fall into the medium- and heavy-duty truck categories, with GVWs ranging from 14,000 to more than 26,000 pounds (6350 to more than 11,793 kilograms).

Other common vacuum truck features and accessories include swing-out hose booms for accessing difficult-to-reach locations, top- and rear-located manways, moisture and oil traps, hose trays, vacuum and relief valves, a rear-opening dump door, fresh water compartments, wash-down pumps and hoses, backup cameras, spring-mounted rear legs, and overflow protection and sensor controls.
