    About Dorsey Trailer

Dorsey Trailer is a longtime manufacturer of chip van, drop-deck, flatbed, lowboy, moving-floor, tag-along, tipper, and other types of semi-trailers. The company, whose motto is “A Dorsey’s More Durable,” was founded in 1911. Dorsey has operated in Elba, Alabama, since its beginning, but became a division of Pitts Enterprises in 2007 when Pitts acquired its assets. Based in Pittsview, Alabama, Pitts Enterprises also owns Dorsey Intermodal, a leading manufacturer of marine and domestic chassis trailers that has manufacturing operations also located in Pittsview, placing it strategically within 500 miles of seven major ports. Pitts Enterprises also owns Pitts Trailers, a maker of forestry and construction equipment trailers, and HaulAss Trailers, manufacturer of Double Decker fixed-neck lowboy trailers.

    The History Of Dorsey Trailer

In 1910, Pete and Henry Dorsey opened a machine shop in Elba in a converted livery stable to repair power saws, boilers, and trucks in support of the timber industry, which at the time was thriving. By 1920, company operations had moved to a larger building, and Dorsey was producing up to 30 logging units a day. By 1930, the company had developed its first commercial freight trailers. In the 1940s, Dorsey relocated yet again, expanding operations in order to meet growing demand from the military and commercial sectors. In 2015, the company continued to boost its production capacity as it built a new 55,000-square-foot manufacturing facility about a mile from Dorsey headquarters.

    The Dorsey Trailer Lineup

Dorsey Trailer’s trailer and semi-trailer lineups feature more than 20 trailer types, including extendables available in up to 90-foot (27.4-meter) open flatbed and up to 72-ft (21.9-m) open drop flat configurations for customers whose requirements go beyond those available in Dorsey’s standard platform series of trailers. The company’s flatbed, drop-deck, tag-along, and other trailers are sold in such series as American Giant, Capacity Giant, Combo Giant, Dominator, Load Giant, Steel Giant, and Steel Giant Extend. Its tipper van and moving-floor van trailers come in open and closed models, while its all-aluminum Aluminum Giant trailers feature lightweight designs that allow for larger payload capacities. Dorsey’s tag-along models are available in 10-, 20-, and 25-ton (9-, 18-, and 22.6-metric-ton) configurations, and with such options as electric or air brakes.

On TruckPaper.com, Dorsey Trailer drop-deck, flatbed, intermodal/container chassis (chassis only), and live-floor trailers are extremely popular. Particularly popular sizes include the 40-ft by 96-inch category, which contains hundreds of the company’s intermodal/container (chassis only), dry-van, and flatbed trailers. You’ll also find hundreds of Dorsey trailers in chipper, curtain side/roll-tarp, drop-deck, dry-van, flatbed, live-floor, lowboy, and storage configurations within the 48-ft by 102-in. and 53-ft by 102-in. size categories.
