    About Livestock Trailers

In TruckPaper.com’s (non-semi) Trailers category, livestock trailers come in tag-along, or bumper-pull, and gooseneck models. Some are designed to be pulled by tractor or even by an ATV. Larger livestock trailers are useful for transporting stock to market or feedlots; others are smaller models for conveying show animals and breeding stock.

    Featherlite Model 8127 Livestock Trailer

Also known as “cattle pots,” “stock trailers,” “swine trailers,” “cattle haulers,” “cattle trailers,” “livestock boxes,” “hog carts,” and “hydraulic lift livestock carts,” to name a few, these trailers are designed to transport cattle, hogs, and sheep. Portable hog traps with trailer wheels fall into this category, as well.

    Construction

Livestock trailers may have windows, slatted sides, and sometimes additional vents to give the animals ventilation. You’ll find new and used livestock trailers for sale made of aluminum, steel, or a combination of the two. Steel livestock trailers can be less expensive, but aluminum trailers are lighter and more resistant to corrosion.

Livestock trailers may include configurable interior partitions to keep the animals from crowding each other and shifting the weight balance of the trailer. These are called “divider doors,” “crowd gates,” “calf gates,” and more.

These trailers may have storage compartments and one or more escape doors or access doors on the sides. Most stock trailers are designed to back up to a chute to allow animals to enter and exit, but ground-load models have a low enough entrance for animals to step up into.

    Flooring

Livestock trailers generally have a floor made of metal, but some are made of pressure-treated wood, polymer (such as PolyCleat), or recycled tire rubber (such as Rumber). Metal floors may be covered by mats or diamond-plated, cleated, or otherwise textured to help livestock keep their footing. Note that in areas with sandy soils, cattle hooves may track in enough grit to pose an abrasion risk to aluminum flooring. Metal and wood floors alike must be cleaned out and dried after use to prevent deterioration from urine and moisture.

    Find The Right Livestock Trailer

You’ll find new and livestock trailers from manufacturers such as Amacsa, Eby, Featherlite, Sundowner, W-W Trailers, and others on TruckPaper.com. Elsewhere on the site, you’ll find fifth-wheel livestock semi-trailers in their own category, and horse trailers as well.
