    About Mack Granite Trucks

Mack introduced the Granite truck series in 2001 with a goal of proving it was possible to offer a durable, rugged truck that still provided drivers a comfortable workspace. The company followed up with the Mack Granite Medium Heavy Duty (MHD) in 2011. The company also notably introduced the MP engine line in 2006 and Mack GuardDog Connect in 2013—features both still available for Mack Granites.

Overall, Mack Granites offer a wide range of configuration options, including tractor unit, standard mixer, bridge mixer, dump or lift-axle dump truck, rear loader, and roll-off configurations. Depending on the configuration, the trucks are usable as concrete pumps or mixers for building and road construction, snowplows with underbody scrapers, dump trucks for construction projects and general hauling, and refuse trucks in waste-management operations. Mack also offers an online portal providing information needed to design unique truck bodies to expand the series’ versatility.

    Mack Granite Specifications

The Class 8 Mack Granite supports a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) that ranges from 35,000 pounds to 92,000 pounds (15,876 to 41,731 kilograms) and a gross combination weight of more than 80,000 lbs (36,287 kg). The truck is available with an 11-liter MP7 or 13L MP8 engine. The MP7 provides 405 rated horsepower and 1,560 pounds-foot torque, while the MP8 provides up to 505 rated hp and 1,860 lbs-ft torque. Transmission options include an Eaton Fuller manual, mDRIVE HD automated manual, or Allison RDS Series automatic.

Buyers also have a choice of either a day cab or 36-inch (91.4-centimeter) sleeper cab and either set-forward or set-back axle positions. The Mack Granite MHD, meanwhile, is a Class 7 or Class 8 truck, depending on exact specifications, with a GVWR of between 35,000 lbs (15,876 kg) and 69,000 lbs (31,297.9 kg). The truck comes in a day cab configuration, includes a Cummins L9 engine that produces 350 rated hp and 1,150 lbs-ft torque, and uses an Allison RDS Series automatic transmission. The Granite MHD is available with either set-forward or set-back axle positions in a 6x4 or 4x2 configuration.

    Interior & Exterior

The Granite and Granite MHD share numerous exterior features, including a sloped hood, galvanized steel cab, heavy-duty crossmembers, and rubber-sealed windshield. Elsewhere, the Granite has a high ground clearance, D-shaped fuel tank, body-ready electrical system, and cab-mounted exhaust. Other exterior highlights for the main Granite series include an air-assisted clutch, cab air springs, self-cleaning steps, top-mounted rear-axle carriers, and a tighter turn radius for navigating through work sites.

On the interior, you’ll find steering with a flat bottom to provide extra driver comfort, a 5-in (12.7cm) Mack Co-Pilot display, optional 7-in (17.8cm) touchscreen infotainment display, and mDRIVE HD controls integrated into the dash (when opting for that transmission style).

The Granite also comes standard with Mack GuardDog Connect, which sends diagnostic information directly to repair centers for preventative-maintenance purposes. The system integrates with Mack ASIST and the Mack OneCall customer center. Combined, these solutions ensure the dealer has access to data about parts, warranties, and more to get trucks back to work as quickly as possible.
