Founded in 1892 by Franz Heinrich Schmitz, the Horstmar-based company Schmitz Cargobull has more than a century worth of experience manufacturing trailers. Its first semitrailers were sold in 1935, and today the company offers a full range of trailers and supporting services, manufacturing more than 50,000 trailers per year.

New and used reefer trailers are a specialty of Schmitz Cargobull. Refrigerated units are available in multiple forms, including as semi-trailers, box semi-trailers with a folding wall, swap boxes, and trucks. Schmitz Cargoball also manufactures general cargo and dry freight trailers, as well as trailers specially designed for hauling vehicles, coil, paper, beverage, and bulk cargo.

To help ensure long-term reliability for its trailers and trucks, Schmitz Cargobull also offers its SmartTrailer service for tracking current conditions, load level, and operating modes, as well as alerting operators to upcoming maintenance needs. Additional services are available for tire management, breakdown assistance, spare parts, and financial management, among others.
