    About Sterling

Sterling Trucks, active from 1997 to 2009, produced trucks designed for various applications, including long-haul distribution, vocational tasks, urban delivery, and municipal services. Until Sterling production was discontinued by parent company Daimler Truck North America in 2009, Sterling sold trucks in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, New Zealand, and Australia.

    Sterling’s History

Sterling Trucks was established in 1997 when Daimler AG acquired the heavy-truck division of the Ford Motor Company, including the facilities, product lines, and intellectual property related to the Ford L-Series trucks. In 1998, Sterling Trucks officially launched its first models, the Sterling A-Line and Sterling L-Line trucks.

In 2000, Daimler merged Sterling Trucks with Freightliner. The collaboration aimed to streamline production, share resources, and enhance the distribution network for both brands.

Daimler announced in 2008 its decision to discontinue the Sterling Trucks brand. The economic recession and declining demand for heavy-duty trucks led the company to consolidate all vehicles under the Freightliner brand. The last Sterling truck rolled off the assembly line in 2009.

    Sterling Products

Sterling Trucks designed models for different industry needs. Notable model lines include A-Line, L-Line, and Acterra. Sterling’s A-Line heavy-duty day cab and sleeper trucks were designed for long-haul and regional distribution use.

Primarily focused on vocational and construction applications, the Sterling L-Line models are well-suited for demanding jobs such as logging and utility services.

The medium-duty Sterling Acterra was designed for urban delivery and municipal services. The Acterra offered versatility and maneuverability in configurations such as box trucks, flatbeds, and utility trucks.
