    About Vans

A van, from a contraction of caravan, is a vehicle used to transport goods or people that is larger than a car but smaller than a truck. They are frequently used in local deliveries as well as moving small groups of people. Vans come in a variety of sizes and configurations for different uses and provide a more compact option for hauling goods, particularly on local routes in crowded urban areas, as well as being a secure option for toting tools and equipment for many trades such as HVAC workers.

    Cargo Vans

Cargo vans, characterized by large rear swing-panel doors for loading and unloading, offer a customizable cargo area to meet the needs of a variety of professions such as electricians, caterers, and delivery services. Some vans also have a sliding side door for additional access to the storage area. The cargo area can be tailored to individual needs with bins, cabinets, or shelving to organize the contents. These vans offer a wide range of payload capacity from 1,500 pounds (680 kilograms) to as much as 5,000 lbs (2,268 kg) according to the model, and heavy-duty cargo vans can often haul as much as 10,000 lbs (4,536 kg).

    Passenger Vans

Passenger vans are available in many different sizes and configurations and are used to transport people, whether students on school trips or a shuttle for hotel guests, rather than goods. Common models offer seating for anywhere from five to 32 passengers.

    Reefer Vans

Also known as “refrigerated vans,” reefer vans have built-in refrigeration units to allow the transport of cargo that needs to be kept frozen or chilled to a specific temperature until it reaches its destination. The vans use roof-mounted cooling systems, thermal door linings, heat-reflective windows, and insulation to keep the products inside cool.

    Service Utility Vans

Light-duty service utility vans are Class 1 to 3 vehicles that come in a variety of sizes and roof heights. They can be fitted with ladder racks, compartments, shelves, piping chutes, and more. Service vans allow drivers to keep tools and equipment in a lockable fully enclosed body and are a favorite of drywallers, heating and cooling technicians, painters, and other professionals that routinely haul tools and supplies to and from jobsites.

    Step Vans

Sometimes referred to as “multi-stop trucks,” “walk-in delivery vans,” or “bread trucks,” step vans are used for a wide variety of uses from deliveries and food trucks to bookmobiles, ambulances, and transport or command centers for S.W.A.T. teams. Step vans are the vehicle of choice for package delivery companies like UPS and FedEx. The large, boxy vans provide the driver with easy access to goods being hauled as well as quick, easy entry and exit from the vehicle.
