The frame is often constructed of steel or aluminum, while the floor (or bed) is typically a metal or wood platform. Flatbed bodies designed for heavy and severe loads are often construction of 10-gauge steel, while aluminum frames and floors are typically selected for applications where operators need to maximize payload or where corrosion is a concern. Bodies with wood floors, by comparison, tend to be more cost-effective and are less time-consuming to repair.
