    About Forestry Bucket Trucks

A forestry bucket truck features an aerial work platform that allows municipal crews, tree-trimming professionals, and utility companies to prune and remove branches or tree limbs. Once the tree debris is downed, operations can remove the material by using a wood chipper, which directs the biomass into chip box mounted to the rear of the truck. Then, the forestry bucket truck can move to the next location or transport the wood chips to a drop-off site where they can be dumped out of the tipping chip box.

    Access Hard-To-Reach Areas

The articulated boom on a forestry bucket truck provides a way for tree care professionals to reach tree branches and perform maintenance, whether that’s pruning tree limbs or removing entire branches. The boom on forestry bucket trucks often extends 50 to 75 feet (15 to 23 meters), and some models can go up 100 ft (30.5 m). The articulated boom on many forestry bucket trucks can also extend to the side, allowing the truck to park on solid surfaces and away from falling limbs. Most forestry bucket trucks also include falling object protection systems (FOPS) over the cab to avoid damage and ensure the safety of operators. The aerial platform, or bucket, can often hold around 500 pounds (227 kilograms), though some platforms can support greater weight to store heavy tools or multiple crew members.

The Chip Box & Rear Chassis

Similar to chipper trucks, forestry bucket trucks are equipped with a semi-enclosed tipping chip box designed for easy unloading when the job is done. Forestry bucket trucks are often fitted with chip boxes with capacities around 10 to 15 cubic yards (7.6 to 11.5 cubic meters). Toolboxes and storage areas on the chassis are often used to store workers’ ladders, pruners, ropes, chains, and other tools and materials. Most forestry trucks also include a heavy-duty towing hitch for towing a wood chipper or other heavy or large tools too big to stow in the truck’s storage compartments.
