Read More (About Manac)Manac is a privately owned semitrailer manufacturer that was founded in 1966 in Saint-Georges, Quebec. The company, which claims to be the only major trailer manufacturer with production facilities in both Canada and the United States, builds flatbed, drop-deck, dry van, dump, live-bottom, log, lowboy, and reefer trailers and more for use in a variety of industries.
Founded in a barn by Marcel Dutil, Manac built 11 trailers its first year, but by 1972 had grown to the extent that it acquired Dutil’s father’s company, Canam SteelWorks, and formed the Canam Manac Group. The company extended its product line by developing new trailer types throughout the ’70s and ’80s, and then pivoted to expansion and product diversification through acquisitions starting in the early 2000s. In 2004, the publicly traded Canam Manac Group spun off its semitrailer division, which was purchased by the newly formed and privately owned Manac Inc. The company would go public again with an IPO in 2013, but just two years later would buy up its shares in order to once again become a private company.
Serving industries from construction and ag to forestry, oil and gas, mining, and more, Manac owns a portfolio of trailer brands, including Alutrec, CPS, Darkwing, Liddell Canada, Peerless, Scona, Trailmobile, Ultraplate, and Ultravan, that it has acquired over the last couple decades. Manac’s acquisitions often netted the company more than just trailer brands and designs; many of its additions also included intellectual property in the form of trailer materials and technology, and some included production facilities.
Today, each Manac facility is focused on the production of certain brands and models. The Saint-Georges plant, for instance, manufactures Manac, Ultraplate, Liddell, and Ultravan dry vans, steel flatbed trailers, lowboys and heavy haulers, and forestry trailers. The Penticton, British Columbia, factory produces Peerless and Scona custom servicing trailers, lowboys, and oilfield and forestry trailers.
Manac’s only U.S.-based facility in Oran, Michigan, manufactures aluminum, steel, and combo flatbeds, steel-bottom dumps, steel grain hoppers, steel end-dumps, scrap trailers, aluminum end-dumps, and loggers for the CPS, Darkwing, and Manac brands.
Offering flatbeds, drop-decks, dry vans, dumps, log trailers, lowboys, and more, Manac boasts one of the industry’s most extensive product lines. You’ll find hundreds of new and used Manac trailers for sale at TruckPaper.com.
