    About Pole Semitrailers

Magnolia Extendable Cable Steer Pole Trailer

Pole semitrailers are designed to transport long timber poles, logs, steel beams, piping, and other materials. Sometimes referred to as “pipe trailers” or “log trailers,” these semitrailers typically have an open, adjustable length between their front dolly or hitch and the rear axles. Some models have telescopic extenders to add more length to the trailer for hauling extremely long poles. Depending on the model, a pole trailer may extend to 67 feet (20.4 meters) or more and have the capability to carry products up to 80 ft (24.4 m) long. On the flip side, a pole semitrailer’s collapsible design lets a driver shorten the trailer to easier-to-manage lengths of 40 ft (12.2 m) or less when its full length isn’t required.

    Construction & Features

Pole semitrailers are commonly constructed of heavy-duty steel. Many have tandem rear axles with dual tires, and some provide rear-steering capability for enhanced maneuverability. Sellers typically list the supported weight for each axle, as well as overall payload capacity. Most pole semitrailers have a platform or turntable above the rear axles, although some models like the Magnolia Extendable Cable Steer Pole Trailer have a turntable on both ends. Operators use the platforms to rig poles or hold larger objects. Deloupe says the turntable on its beam pole semitrailer provides better control in tight spots and urban areas. Pole semitrailers typically come with onboard tie-downs, such as nylon winch straps, to secure products during transport. You’ll also find pole semitrailers that include strobe lights, electric brakes, and other features to make transporting products safer.
