    About Pole Trailers

    Load King LK-112-PT Pole Trailer

Pole trailers are designed to transport long timber poles, logs, steel beams, piping, and other materials. Sometimes referred to as “pipe trailers” or “log trailers,” these trailers typically have an open, adjustable length between their front dolly or hitch and rear axle or axles. Depending on the model, a pole trailer may extend to lengths of 40 feet (12.2 meters) or more. For example, the LPT 3547 from Lane can extend up to 47 ft (14.3 m). On the flip side, a pole trailer’s collapsible design lets a driver shorten the trailer to easier-to-manage lengths of 24 ft (7.3 m) or less when its full length isn’t required. Pole trailers are similar in design and concept to pole semitrailers, although pole semitrailers typically extend to greater lengths and commonly use a fifth wheel plate, whereas pole trailers use pintle, drop-pin, and ball hitch connectors.

    Construction & Features

Pole trailers are usually constructed of heavy-duty steel and have steel or wood flooring. You’ll find models with single and tandem axles with single and dual wheels. Sellers typically list the supported weight for each axle, as well as overall payload capacity. For example, the steel-constructed Load King LK-112-PT, which offers lengths of 24, 31, and 40 ft, has a frame capacity of 19,500 pounds (8,845 kilograms) and a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 24,000 lbs (10,886 kg) based on tandem axles each rated for 12,000 lbs (5,4443 kg). Most pole trailers have a platform or turntable above the rear axles that’s used to secure the load. Some models have a cargo bed, and many come with onboard tie-downs, such as nylon winch straps, to secure products. Electric and air brakes, spring suspensions, and LED lights are also common features.,/p>
