    About Stone Slinger Trucks

Western Star 4800SA Stone Slinger Truck

Stone slinger trucks, sometimes referred to as “conveyor trucks” or “stone spreaders,” are heavy-duty vehicles designed to distribute rock, gravel, sand, mulch, and other materials with a high degree of accuracy. These trucks can be used in construction and landscaping, for laying pipe, or for flood control purposes. Typical usage scenarios include helping form foundations, laying down road beds, filling in the space around tanks or pipes for drainage, finishing off landscaping projects, and more. They are frequently used for projects that require precise placement of materials in hard-to-access places. These trucks can deliver materials up to 100 feet (30.5 meters) away from the truck and can reach high enough to sling over a single-story house, enabling work to be done without the need to drive all over the site.

    Characteristics & Equipment

Most stone slinger trucks have a large hopper on the back that holds the materials and a conveyor that folds out to distribute those materials in an even pattern. They are often equipped with a tarp that goes over the payload to secure loads such as sand that might blow away during transit. Some models are even equipped with remote control units that allow the driver to operate the conveyor and maneuver the truck from outside the cab, making materials delivery a one-man job. These trucks vary in size, conveyor length, and other factors, which is what makes them so versatile and a fit for so many jobs.
