About Tank & Vacuum Truck Bodies

A number of manufacturers build standalone, unmounted tank bodies that can convert your heavy-duty, medium-duty, or light-duty chassis into a tank truck or vacuum truck. There are water tanks used for a variety of jobs, along with specialty tanks and equipment for wet or dry vacuuming, sanitation, sewer jetting, hydro excavating, and more.

    Types

Vacuum truck bodies are used for cleaning up liquids, solids, semi-solid waste, debris, slurry, and spills in many types of applications. They also transport water, natural gas, oil, and fracking (hydraulic fracturing) fluids and mud in oilfield operations. There are bodies available for liquid vacuum trucks or hydrovac trucks; combination (combo) sewer cleaners for clearing sewer lines, catch basins, and septic tanks, as well as for transporting septage; industrial vacuum loaders for liquids, solids, and slurries; and vacuum excavators, used as a safer alternative to a mechanical excavator or loader backhoe to dig around underground pipes, cables, and structures. Sewer jetters, on the other hand, apply pressure in the opposite direction to flush out blockages in pipes and drainage systems.

    Features

Tank bodies are generally sold by their capacity, such as 3,500 gallons (13,250 liters). They may have internal compartments for separating different materials, or baffles to prevent the tank’s contents from surging during transport. Some include debris tanks for the waste water and solids they collect. Vacuum tank bodies may be sold complete with engines and air-cooled or liquid-cooled pumps, including liquid ring pumps.
