    About Water Tank Semitrailers

Water tank semitrailers are as common as their cargo is ubiquitous. They’re used to haul potable drinking water as part of disaster relief efforts, for example, or to remote sites without a ready source of clean water. Tanker trailers may also transport non-potable water for dust suppression and to maintain better roadway compaction at construction sites, demolition sites, mines, quarries, and oilfields. Water trailers also see usage in rural firefighting and fire prevention, irrigation, and agricultural applications, such as liquid tender trailers and nurse trailers that can mix water with herbicides or pesticides in sprayer tanks.

    Types Of Water Trailers

Water tank semitrailers are typically fifth-wheel models with tanks fashioned of aluminum, steel, or stainless steel. Tanks are available in a broad variety of capacities, such as 8,000 gallons (30,000 liters) and 12,000 gallons (45,000 liters).

Tandem- and tridem-axle water trailers are most common, although manufacturers such as Tremcar produce tank semitrailers with up to eight axles for areas with strict per-axle load limitations. Others, such as Jasper Tank, make tandem- and tridem-axle water tank pup trailers with pintle hitch connectors.

Double tank trailers, made by Demco and others, are drop-deck or step-deck semitrailers with a tank in the front and another in the rear. The smaller tanks on these models are commonly made of polyethylene or similar materials, often in an opaque color to prevent sunlight from encouraging the growth of algae in the water.

    Tank Features

Water tanks may have internal compartments to keep liquid loads separated, and/or anti-surge baffles that prevent the water from surging and radically shifting the trailer’s center of gravity during transport, which could cause it to tip over or make it harder to control. Many tankers include belly pumps, other pumps, or compressors, as well as valves and hoses for controlled unloading of their cargo. Some feature spray nozzles to distribute the water on the dusty ground of a racetrack or construction site. Many models have a ladder and a walkway on the top or side of the tank to give the operator access to the top fill port(s).

Find The Right Water Tank Semitrailer

New and used water tank semitrailers for sale on TruckPaper.com come from a variety of manufacturers, past and present. Some examples include Advance, Brenner, Demco, Fruehauf, Heil, Neville, Polar, and Tremcar.

In many cases, the same tank semitrailers that can be used for water are also useful for transporting other liquids. Some examples include liquid food-grade tank semitrailers, crude oil tank semitrailers, gasoline and fuel tank semitrailers, vacuum tank semitrailers, and non-code tank semitrailers that can carry non-hazardous liquid substances such as fertilizer and water.

TruckPaper.com also lists smaller water tank trailers with a bumper-pull ball hitch or a pintle hitch that can be pulled by a truck or tractor.
