Modern wreckers generally forgo using hooks and chains in favor of using a wheel-lift, underlift, or chassis lift approach due to less potential for scratches, dents, and other damage occurring to the towed vehicle while in transit. Various wrecker tow truck features may include outriggers to enhance the lifting capacity and stability, sleeper compartments in heavy-duty models for cross-country hauls, remote control abilities, onboard scale systems, and rear cameras.
