NACFE Announces Run On Less Regional Participants & Sponsors

    Posted On: September 11, 2019

The North American Council for Freight Efficiency (NACFE) recently announced the 10 truck fleets that will take part in the Run on Less Regional event, which the organization describes as “a freight efficiency roadshow showcasing trucks operating in a variety of regional haul applications.” Participants include C&S Wholesale Grocers, Hirschbach, Hogan Transportation, J.B. Hunt, Meijer, PepsiCo’s snacks and beverages division, Ploger Transportation, Schneider, Southeastern Freight Lines, and UPS.

    Regional Efficiency

The three-week Run on Less Regional event begins on October 8th and ends on October 27th, one day before the start of the 2019 North American Commercial Vehicle Show in Atlanta, Georgia. Each of the fleets involved will operate within a 300-mile radius of its home base while monitoring, in real time, “a number of factors, including miles traveled, fuel consumed, pickups and deliveries, elevation change, and vehicle speed,” according to the NACFE. The event will not only showcase how efficiently these fleets operate, but also highlight the viability of regional routes as a way to attract more driving talent.

“Regional operations mean drivers are likely to get home on a regular basis, which is important given the driver shortage,” says Mike Roeth, NACFE executive director. “In addition, regional operations are fertile ground for alternate-fueled vehicles because it is easier for fueling infrastructure to be installed for vehicles that use an energy source other than diesel fuel.”

    Run On Less Regional Sponsors

While Shell is the Title Sponsor of the Run on Less Regional, several other businesses and organizations are chipping in to make the event possible. Strick Trailers, for example, is teaming up with one of its customers, PepsiCo, to take part in the efficiency-focused event. “We appreciate the opportunity to participate in the Run on Less Regional event with our customer, and value the co-collaborative relationship that allows Strick to build trailers to meet their goals and vision for their fleet operations,” says Jon Karel, vice president of national accounts at Strick Trailers.
