Used Flatbed Trailer Inventory Increasing, Prices Expected To Come Down
According to the latest market reports from Sandhills Global, inventory levels of used semitrailers in Sandhills’ U.S. marketplaces rose 1.93% month over month and 28.48% year over year in August. This follows several months of growth. Used dry van trailers and used flatbed trailers are driving these increases.
In a new market report video, Truck Paper Manager Scott Lubischer provides some context for the inventory and value trends in the used flatbed category. Although prices have remained fairly steady, he says, dropping a little from their pre-pandemic high of around $24,000, recent inventory increases are expected to bring those prices lower.

“When COVID hit in early 2020, we started to see inventory decrease to levels we hadn’t seen before,” says Lubischer. “That sent prices up. Today, we are normalizing a bit. The inventory is still growing, but on average, prices look a little flat right now.”
However, Lubischer adds, prices are likely to start falling soon. “Asking values are currently around $19,000, but auction values are averaging around $11,000. Auctions lead the charge in terms of where the market is going. Our data shows that when it starts to drop in the auctions, you should start to see it in retail.”
