Seattle-Area Lumber Company Relies On Kenworth T880s & They Deliver

Chinook Lumber, which is based in Snohomish, Washington, and has locations in North Bend and Arlington, operates a fleet eight Kenworth trucks that it relies on to serve customers from the Olympic Peninsula to Cle Elum, and from the Canadian Border to Olympia. Six of the company’s trucks are Kenworth T880 models, each of which features a PACCAR MX-13 engine that produces 455 horsepower (339 kilowatts) and up to 1,850 pounds-foot (2,508 newton meters) of torque. They also have 24-foot (7.3-meter) flatbeds, which makes them well-suited for delivering building materials to “professional contractors and do-it-yourself homeowners,” Kenworth says.

    Dependability Meets Comfort

“The T880 provides us with plenty of power and the reliability we need,” says Todd Score, operations manager at Chinook Lumber. “Typically, our drivers will make three to eight deliveries in any given day. Our drivers may make a delivery to a location with rugged terrain and steep grade and later that day find themselves in downtown Seattle or Bellevue. With the T880, we are able to provide our drivers a truck that is equipped to handle challenging roads without sacrificing the comfortable and spacious cab that the drivers really enjoy.”

    T880s On Parade

Chinook Lumber also uses its T880s to attract new customers and recruit drivers. The company puts custom wraps on its trucks and keeps them looking as clean and as close to new as possible. It has worked well so far, because the company drove two of its T880 trucks in a Fourth of July parade in Arlington, Washington, last year and had “a lot of people come up and tell us how great our trucks looked,” Score says. This allows the company to effectively market its brand and show potential future employees what could be.

The benefits of the T880 also help with driver retention. “Good drivers are hard to come by. We’ve done well in keeping our current drivers and I can attribute that to providing them equipment that is driver-friendly – equipment that is always kept in quality condition. Drivers care about what they drive,” says Score. “It’s hard to match the look and performance of a Kenworth truck. We’ve been a Kenworth company all along and we will continue to represent the Pacific Northwest-based company moving forward.”

There are thousands of new and used Kenworth trucks for sale at TruckPaper.com, including a large selection of T880 models.
