IC Bus Has First Electric CE School Bus Order
IC Bus recently announced its first order of 18 type C electric school buses which has been funded through the British Columbia Provincial School Bus Standing Offer. They will be the first electric school buses in use in British Columbia and will go to 14 school districts in the province, which has mandated a 40% greenhouse gas reduction for public fleets by 2030. The buses will build on other sustainability initiatives such as fuel-efficient driving techniques and route design, which have already contributed to a 30% drop in fuel consumption. The bus order comes after an 18-month study with a focus group of transportation officials to plan for charging infrastructure and other considerations to prep for the acquisition. IC Bus will deliver the electric buses starting in 2021.
“The Natural Next Step”
Robyn Stephenson, manager of Transportation Services at School District No. 22 in Vernon, British Columbia, is looking forward to putting two of the electric buses into service next year. “Electric school buses are the natural next step to continue on the path towards zero greenhouse gasses for the future of the children we serve,” says Stephenson. “IC Bus was able to provide a terrific product and the support necessary to help us truly achieve our sustainability goals.”
