IC Bus Introduces V8 Propane Engine Option For CE Series School Buses
IC Bus recently launched a new engine option for its CE Series school bus, an 8.8-liter V8 propane engine that produces 270 horsepower (201 kilowatts) and 565 pounds-foot (766 newton-meters) of torque. The highly efficient engine exceeds Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) emissions standards as well as the optional California Air Resources Board (CARB) NOx (nitrous oxide) standard. The engine emits only 0.02 grams on NOx per brake horsepower. It reduces carbon dioxide emissions by 10% compared to “current competitive propane engines,” IC Bus says.
Engine Options
The new 8.8-liter propane option, which was developed in partnership with Power Solutions International (PSI), comes with a five-year unlimited miles warranty. The CE Series is still available with a Cummins B6.7 gasoline-powered engine that produces 260 hp (194 kW) and 660 lbf-ft (895 N-m) of torque or a standard propane engine, also from PSI, that produces 265 hp (198 kW) and 548 lbf-ft (743 N-m) of torque.
“A Growing Segment”
“Propane is a growing segment for us, and we are proud to now offer an even cleaner solution to our customers,” says Trish Reed, vice president and general manager of IC Bus. “This new engine promises to deliver on our customer’s high standards for performance, durability, safety, and environmental impact.”
