Volvo To Showcase VNR Electric & Aurora Driver Autonomous Tech At ACT Expo 2022
Volvo Trucks North America will be present at Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo 2022, running May 9 to 12 at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California. The manufacturer plans to debut its next-generation zero-emission VNR Electric 6x2 tractor and the first long-haul VNL integrated with autonomous driving tech from Aurora Driver for hub-to-hub operations.
“The next-generation Volvo VNR Electric is in production since Q2 2022 and will be on display in our booth, delivering on the promises that we made at ACT Expo 2021 just nine months ago to lead the industry toward more sustainable transportation,” says Volvo Trucks North America President Peter Voorhoeve. “Our electromobility solutions are on the road now and we continue to develop and deliver innovative technology to drive sustainable freight transport forward.”
The Next-Gen VNR Electric
In early 2022, Volvo announced the next-generation VNR Electric with new battery technology and a new six-battery package, resulting in an operational range of 275 miles (442 kilometers), up from the 150-mi (241-km) range provided by its 264-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion batteries. The next-generation VNR Electric increases the all-electric truck’s energy storage to 565 kWh, and Volvo adds a dedicated Battery Thermal Management System (BTMS) to improve power management. The end result is a 40% increase in storage capacity per battery.
A Peek Into The Future
Volvo is hosting a press conference at its ACT booth (booth #1736) on May 9th at 5pm PST, where Voorhoeve will discuss new electromobility partnerships, charging infrastructure advancements, and developments in autonomous trucks. Volvo Autonomous Solutions will be at the booth to cover the progress it has made with on-highway autonomous trucks. In addition, Volvo Construction Equipment plans to demonstrate its ECR25 Electric compact excavator to show how battery-electric construction equipment can enable fleets to reduce their carbon footprint.
