Isuzu Serves Up Fun With New 2024 Ultimate Craft Beer Truck
Isuzu Commercial Truck of America recently showed off the 2024 update of its Ultimate Craft Beer Truck at the Craft Brewers Conference. The Class 5 NRR refrigerated truck serves dual purposes, allowing craft breweries to make regular deliveries to their customers and to promote and serve their beer at live events.
Marketing Power For Breweries
The latest Ultimate Craft Beer Truck has plenty of surface space for its buyer’s logo and other branding elements. Besides craft breweries, Isuzu has also sold beer trucks to casinos and party rental companies, the company says.
“Most people associate work trucks with box trucks, sweepers, and dumps, but the Ultimate Craft Beer Truck is synonymous with delivering fun,” says Isuzu Commercial Truck of America President Shaun Skinner. “The customers that have bought them have enjoyed a lot of success and we constantly get questions about the truck and if there’s one available. It remains an exciting product.”
Isuzu collaborated with Summit Truck Body of Portland, Oregon, to transform the diesel Isuzu NRR into the 2024 Ultimate Craft Beer Truck. The 19,500-pound (8,845-kilogram) Class 5 vehicle does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL).
Weekday Workhorse
The Ultimate Craft Beer Truck is a low cab-forward (LCF) Isuzu with excellent forward visibility and maneuverability. The vehicle shown at the conference also featured Isuzu’s Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) to help avoid collisions.
Summit Truck Body installed its 16-foot (4.9-meter) insulated body on the Isuzu, made with compressed foam panels, an insulated aluminum floor, and e-track storage configuration support installed at keg height. A Thermo King 690R reefer unit keeps the interior cool, and its electric standby keeps beer cold when loaded the evening before a morning delivery. A 2,500-lb (1,134-kg) tuck-away liftgate, large enough for a loaded pallet jack, helps load and unload product.
Weekend Party Machine
The Ultimate Craft Beer Truck is engineered for setup or teardown at a live event in 10 minutes or less. It has a 13-ft (4-m) powered awning with LED lighting and a “bomber door” to access refrigerated cans and bottles.
The beer tap system is thoughtfully designed for simultaneous CO2 and nitrogen pouring. Its eight Perlick taps have individual pressure gauges, and there’s room above them for large, eye-catching tap handles. A 5-gallon (19-liter) glass rinser and a deep drip tray drain into a 15-gal (56.8-L) grey water tank that is easy to empty.
“Collaborating with Isuzu on this project has been really exciting,” says Summit Truck Body President Ted Croce. “It has challenged us to think about how we engineer our insulated body for a new market, make it exciting, and maximize the features and convenience for those serving from it.”
Isuzu Power, Efficiency & Reliability
The Isuzu NRR at the foundation of the Ultimate Craft Beer Truck has an efficient 5.2-L, turbocharged, inline 4-cylinder engine with 215 horsepower (160 kilowatts) and 452 pounds-foot (613 newton-meters) of torque. The motor’s B10 durability rating predicts 375,000 miles (603,500 kilometers) of reliable service.
