    About Expeditor Trucks

When someone needs a shipment delivered as soon as possible, expeditor trucks are there to haul the load. Expeditor trucks are generally a modified heavy-duty box truck or moving truck, dry van truck, or reefer truck with cargo boxes anywhere from 10 to 26 feet (3 to 8 meters) in length. The long cargo box allows service providers to fill the truck with freight, such as palletized loads, perishable goods, and other equipment that can fit within a cargo box and immediately haul it where it needs to go. If the delivery is nearby and the shipment is small, service providers may opt for a cargo van instead of a straight truck.

Nonstop Hauling From A To B

In cases where expediated freight is set for same- or next-day delivery, expeditor trucks are often preferable to a full-size truck and trailer with a standard work cycle and delivery schedule. A pair of drivers may sometimes work as a team to haul day and night to meet short delivery schedules, so expeditor trucks are often equipped with large sleeper compartments that allow around-the-clock transport. These compartments may include such amenities as a microwave oven, refrigerator, and sink, and in some cases even a shower and toilet. Heating and cooling units in the sleeper compartment are also common to provide a comfortable environment for team members when they are not driving.

Expeditor Trucks vs. Hot Shot Trucks

Expeditor trucks and hot shot trucks are both set up to haul a load anywhere at a moment’s notice, but instead of the manufacturing parts, pharmaceuticals, and perishable products that fit within a cargo box, hot shot trucks typically haul less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments like single pieces of equipment or other machines needed to maintain productivity on a jobsite. Hot shot trucks are often Class 3 to Class 6 trucks ranging from 10,001 to 26,000 pounds (roughly 4,500 to 11,800 kilograms) and equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch. Operators couple the truck with the right trailer for the job based on the weight and dimensions of the load. Common trailers used in hot shot trucking include car haulers, flatbed trailers, drop-deck trailers, lowboy trailers, and gooseneck trailers.
