    About GMC

Founded in 1908, GMC is among the world’s oldest vehicle manufacturing brands. A subsidiary of General Motors—along with Chevrolet , Buick, and Cadillac—GMC sells light- and medium-duty pickup trucks, SUVs, and vans. Its commercial vehicle lineup features Savana Cargo, Passenger, and Cutaway vans and Sierra trucks, plus Acadia, Terrain, and Yukon SUVs. GMC passenger vehicles include the popular Sierra, and Denali and AT4 pickup and SUV ranges. GMC says the Sierra is its highest-volume vehicle and the market’s most powerful light-duty pickup.

TopKicks are also well-represented, and available as chippers, farm and grain, plow and spreader, stake, and wrecker tow trucks.

    GMC Through The Years

In 1900, Max and Morris Grabowsky founded Grabowsky Motor Company, which became Rapid Motor Vehicle Company (RMVC) in 1902. In 1904, RMVC produced 75 trucks at its factory in Pontiac, Michigan. General Motors, founded by William C. Durant, purchased RMVC in 1908 and then merged RMVC and Reliance Motor Car Company to form General Motors Truck Company in 1911. In the years that followed, GM brought transit and inter-urban bus manufacturer Yellow Coach under the GMC umbrella, introduced a refrigerated GMC truck and trailer, and unveiled its first SUV, the GMC Suburban.

In the 1960s, GMC introduced its first full-size, personal-use pickup, which eventually became the Sierra. In 1996, the company’s name was changed to simply “GMC.” The company celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2002, introduced its first unibody vehicle (the Acadia) in 2007, and ended production of its medium-duty commercial trucks in 2009. In 2020, GM announced the return of the Hummer as a sub-brand of GMC. By 2025, GM plans to produce 30 electric vehicles. In 2021, it announced an investment of more than $7 billion in its manufacturing facilities to increase battery cell and electric truck production. The investment includes a conversion of an assembly plant in Orion Township, Michigan, to build electric GMC Sierra pickups.
