    About Hino

Hino Motors Ltd. was established in 1942, but traces its roots back to 1910 when the Tokyo Gas Co. Ltd. was created to provide gas lighting services to customers in Tokyo, Japan. The company was renamed Tokyo Gas and Electric Industry Co. Ltd. in 1913 when it began producing electrical parts. In 1913, the company produced the Type TGE-A truck, its first vehicle. The company would go on to produce more TGE-Type trucks over the following decade along with the company’s first buses in t930. In 1942, the Hino plant of what was by that point the Diesel Motor Industry Co. was made independent under the name Hino Heavy Industries Inc. “Heavy” was dropped from the name in 1946, the same year the company produced Japan’s first post-war heavy-duty trailer truck.

    Innovation & Expansion

In the ensuing decades, the company expanded its lineup of trucks and buses and produced some passenger vehicles, first in collaboration with Renault, and later built its own in-house vehicle, the Contessa. Hino entered a business alliance with Toyota Motor Corporation in 1966 and became a subsidiary of Toyota in 2001. The company released the first commercially available hybrid vehicle, an urban transit bus in 1991, and in 2006 built the first Pre-Collision System into its Profia truck, which was known as the Hino 700 in most export markets. Speaking of exports, Hino soon expanded to many foreign markets, including Europe, North America, and Latin America. Hino established its U.S. division in 1985. Today, Hino Motors Manufacturing U.S.A. Inc. produces Class 6 and Class 7 conventional trucks for the U.S. market at facilities in Michigan, Arkansas, West Virginia, and California.

    Diverse Offerings

Today, Hino offers a large variety of cab over and conventional trucks. Hino’s 500 series are among some of its most popular trucks. The 500 series includes 11 models, two of which are semi-tractors. The line is available with a wide range of engines to meet emissions standards from Euro 2 to Euro 6 and power options from 162 to 375 horsepower (121 to 280 kilowatts). Another expansive Hino product lineup, the 300 series, comprises trucks that meet emissions standards from Euro 3 to Euro 6, with engine options ranging from 108 to 202 HP (81 to 151 kW).
